Room Tour: Hotel Papa Whale, Taipei, Taiwan

I won NT$5,000 Hotel/Accommodation Vouchers from Taiwan the Lucky Land Promo of Klook! And I couldn't be more excited to start my trip with a good hotel. When booking a hotel, one of the things that I consider is the proximity to the attractions and the ease of transportation. My birthday trip to Taiwan is not complete without a comfortable place to stay for 6 days and 5 nights.

During my recent trip to Taipei, I stayed at Hotel Papa Whale, located in the heart of the bustling Ximending district. This trendy boutique hotel blends industrial-chic design with cozy comforts, making it a unique and stylish option for travelers looking for something different. I love that there is a vintage vibe when you enter the hotel. There are vintage items such as old phones, old luggages, and as a sucker for vintage, I am amazed by this hotel.

The Rooms

We booked Elegant Double Room.

The rooms at Hotel Papa Whale are compact but thoughtfully designed. My room featured minimalist decor with exposed concrete walls, quirky art, and all the essentials like a comfortable bed, flat-screen TV, and fast Wi-Fi. Though small, the space was well-organized and perfect for a solo traveler or a couple.

Toilet has no bidet or even a faucet that you can use, so this one is a no for me especially if you're from a country who is fond of using bidet or pale and dipper.

There is a lobby where you can chill and read books. Caveat: The books are written in Chinese characters, though.

Laundry Area

This are is one of my favorites! I was able to do my laundry before going home to Manila. It's a combination of wash and dry washing machines and can only be used by paying coins.

Breakdown of laundry expenses:

  • Detergent: NT$10
  • Wash: NT$70
  • Dry: NT$50
There are money converters available in the area too so no need to worry if you are carrying bills.

Lobby area

This is where we waited when we arrived. Since check-in time is at 3:00 pm, we have to wait until that time. We arrived at the hotel around 1:00 pm. Hotel Papa Whale Taipei has a self-check-in and self-check-out process. You can request more than one key card so that you can leave the room airconditioned if you are going to stroll and visit your planned itinerary for the day.

Facilities & Services

Hotel Papa Whale offers several standout amenities, despite its urban location. The lobby area feels like a trendy café with cool artwork, plush seating, and plenty of spots to relax or work. There’s also a self-service laundry, which is a great convenience for longer stays. I like the vintage vibes that it boasts. And the area has super cold aircon!

The Whale Bar in the lobby is a great spot to unwind with a drink, and their in-house restaurant serves a mix of Asian and Western dishes. I enjoyed their breakfast, which had a decent selection of both hot and cold options, perfect for fueling up before a busy day of sightseeing.

Location

The best part of staying at Hotel Papa Whale is its prime location. Situated just a 10-minute walk from Ximen MRT Station, it’s easy to access all of Taipei’s main attractions. Plus, you’re right in the middle of Ximending Walking District, known for its vibrant street life, shopping, and endless food stalls.

Overall Experience

Hotel Papa Whale is perfect for travelers who appreciate creative design, convenience, and a little quirkiness. The hotel’s unique vibe and excellent location made my stay in Taipei not only comfortable but also memorable. If you’re looking for a stylish, budget-friendly option in Taipei, this hotel is a fantastic choice!
